Removing Water Marks from Wooden Surface: Helpful Tips by FurnitureCart

If you have wood furniture, such as a dining room table, accent table or even a nightstand, you might want to be careful to not leave liquids on the surface. If you do, you might see nasty water marks. Many people think they are irreparable, but if you act quickly, there are a few household methods to removing these stains without using any harmful chemicals. The first thing to remember, though, is to avoid rubbing, scrubbing or wiping the liquid off the wood surface. Try to blot it out gently and quickly using a clean cotton towel.

Mayonnaise
Apply a generous layer of mayonnaise onto the mark and leave it over
night. In the morning wipe the surface with a thick cotton cloth.

Toothpaste
Polish the mark with white toothpaste until it disappears. Remember
to use a white paste, not a gel!

Ashes
If there’s a smoker in the house, you can use those cigar or cigarette
ashes to rub into the mark until it disappears.

Baking Soda
Mix baking soda and water to make a paste. Rub the paste into the stain
and leave it overnight then wipe with a cotton cloth in the morning.

Wood Furniture Care Instructions

These useful tips will help keep wood furniture looking good for years. Taking good care of your solid hardwood furniture ensures its longevity. It’s easy and largely a matter of common sense.

Do not place wood furniture near heating or air-conditioning outlets.  If this is impractical, use a shield or guard to direct the air flow away.  Exposure to extreme temperature and / or humidity variations can damage any wood pieces.

Do not expose your furniture to any liquids.  All liquids should be wiped up immediately with a soft, slightly damp cloth in the direction of the wood grain.  For stone surfaces, liquids should be immediately soaked up with a paper towel and wiped dry to avoid any staining.

Do not place your furniture next to strong or direct sunlight, open windows and dampness.  Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause fading of your furniture finish.  Extreme temperatures and humidity changes can cause cracking and splitting.

Do not place rubber or plastic material on the wood finish.  Chemicals within the plastic or rubber may react with the finish if left in contact for a long period of time.  Place a strip of felt or cork under your accessories to avoid any markings.

Never place hot objects on any furniture surface.  Always place a hot plate between your furniture top and a hot object to protect your furniture.

Dust with a clean, damp, lint free cloth.  Frequent dusting will remove abrasive build up, which can damage a finish over time.  Small scratches and mars can be touched up or covered with a mar or scratch remover or a touch up stick. These can be purchased from any paint or hardware store.
